Thomas Jarvis bought a piece of land located between the Perquimans River and Carolina Sound (in this time known as the Albemarle country), through a purchase made at a Native American tribe. Sometime before 1691, Javis worked on a ship, serving as captain.
In 1691 Thomas Jarvis was appointed Deputy Governor of North and South Carolina under the colonial government Colonel Ludwell, being so the first deputy governor of the entire colony. Thomas Jarvis was also the Deputy Governor for the area north and east of the Cape Fear.〔(East Carolina University ). Retrieved in August 02, 2012, to 23:27 pm. 〕 He died in 1694.〔
Although ''very little is known about'' his private life, he had at least a son (Foster) and seven slaves (of which three were blacks, two Amerindians, and two mixed race).〔
